The Rutles Fandom Wiki or The Rutles Wiki (briefly known as The Rutles Riki)[1][2] is the unofficial official Wiki dedicated to compiling, organizing, vandalizing, and unvandalizing the history and media of The Rutles, and is the website you are currently on.

History[]

The history of The Rutles Wiki mainly revolves around different groups of editors and administrators mucking about throughout different periods of time varying in activity, almost like Dynasties.

Humble beginnings and first inactive period (2010–2011)[]

Rut

On the 26th of November 2010, a young Paulisthewalrus (username in reference to the Rutles parody band The Beatles) creates The Rutles Wiki on Fandom.com,[3] a popular Wiki hosting site, for currently unknown reasons. The Wiki then preceded to become inactive for the rest of 2010 and almost all of 2011, until a very young soon-to-be-head-admin OttselSpy25 created a page about the Rutles' 1966 Bigger than God Controversy on the 29th of November 2011.[4] OttselSpy25 and Paulisthewalrus would proceed to occasionally edit the Wiki throughout the rest of November that year. On the 2nd of December, Paulisthewalrus would transfer ownership of the Wiki to OttselSpy25, granting him the role of Administrator and Bureaucrat. Paulisthewalrus would soon retire, making his last edit to the Wiki on the 16th of December, 2011.[5]

OttselSpy25's big break (2011–2012)[]

OttselSpy25, the new head admin of The Rutles Wiki, would begin to rapidly develop the site, uploading hundreds upon hundreds of images to the Wiki,[6] editing non-stop,[7] and generally building up the Wiki from the little Paulisthewalrus had left.

Around early December 2011, the user formerly know as Yeepsi (Yeepsi changed his username to ListentoMusic in 2022, then became inactive), would become The Rutles Wiki's third administrator. OttselSpy25 and Yeepsi would continue building The Rutles Wiki throughout 2012, as the Wiki would begin to garner it's first ordinary-folk editors, the first being That Gamer, MeetTheRutles, and FISHYFISHYFOSHY.[8][9][10] The Rutles Wiki's first block would be enacted by Ottselspy25 against the unregistered IP address 86.186.68.57 for "removing content from pages" in mid 2012.[11]

Lutres's Reign of Terror (2013–2016)[]

“1, We told you to stop ruining that image, and you didn't. So, the file will remain blocked forever. 2, No one fucking cares about Japanese grammar. This is a wiki about the Rutles. 3, You're spending way too much on this wiki, go outside.”
FreakOut on Lutres, December 16, 2013[12]

An example of the standards Lutres held to himself and the Rutles Wiki

Lutres created an account on The Rutles Wiki on the 23rd of July, 2013. He would proceed to become the dominant and most active editor on the Wiki, being the first non-administrative user to so, out-editing the entire administrator team, except for OttselSpy25.[13] Lutres would also receive the most blocks out of any editor on The Rutles Wiki, earning himself a grand total of three.[14]

Around the same time Lutres created his account, OttselSpy25 would promote user FreakOut (known as ShabbyRoad until the 30th of September 2013)[15] to administrator, giving The Rutles Wiki its fourth administrator. FreakOut would become Lutres's greatest foe, fighting dozens of edit wars against him, deleting his images, deleting his articles,[16] reverting his edits, and leaving a variety of messages on his talk page.[17] Lutres would be first blocked on the 30th of July 2013 for "[continuing] to make edit wars as well as make unreadable pages",[18] originally for a month, though his block seemingly was revoked early. Lutres would have twelve of his articles deleted and get three articles protected by FreakOut before his second block on the 5th of October for "starting edit wars, again".[19] Four articles were deleted while Lutres was blocked.

Lutres got right back to his controversial style of editing and technique of starting edit wars with administrators after his second block ended. FreakOut began clamping down on Lutres's frequent blog posts throughout the rest of 2013, and left the following comment on one of Lutres blogs just before deleting it: "Ron Nasty isn't real. The Rutles are fictional. This isn't a Funny Beatles wiki. You can't even spell properly. You're just obsessed with this wiki".[20] FreakOut was clearly high on Tea when he wrote this comment, as Ron Nasty and The Rutles are very real, and what this Wiki is dedicated to. He also likely mixed up The Rutles with the parody band "The Beatles". Lutres would also get seven articles deleted and get three articles and an image permanently protected, two of which were not unprotected until 2023.

Lutres would be blocked for the third and last time on the 27th of January 2014 for "constant edit wars on deleted pages and images"[21], originally for 6 months, though the block was shortened to two weeks on the 29th.[22] Lutres's contributions to the Wiki would continue to occasionally be deleted, and it was beginning to become clear that Lutres's Reign of Terror was coming to an end.

Lutres would announce that he was going to "Leave Wikia" in his last blog post on the 24th of April 2016,[23] and proceeded to deactivate his Fandom.com account globally.[24] FreakOut would continue to edit and moderate The Rutles Wiki until he too became inactive on the 1st of February 2017.[25]

Semi-"Rise of" Era (2017–2020)[]

Riki

After Lutres and FreakOut walked off into the sunset, The Rutles Wiki would begin to garner more editors than it ever had before, and the quality of articles started increasing. OttselSpy25 was the only remaining administrator still active during this time, and was the most active editor on the Wiki. Blog posts were being posted frequently, and many were being commented on (unlike Lutres's flurry of interact-less blogs). Quarrels between editors and admins were few and far between, with only one editor being blocked during this period of time .[26] Ironically, there was less activity on The Rutles Wiki during this editor-rich period than when Lutres was almost the sole-editor of the Wiki. Many top editors, such as KirbyTheBulborb, the number-one editor (who is also the number-one editor and lead admin on the wiki about The Rutles parody band The Beatles),[27] started editing The Rutles Wiki during this time.

Semi-Second inactive period (2020–2023)[]

As OttselSpy25 would continue to contribute to The Rutles Wiki, editing from ordinary-folk began to slow. In December 2019, the wiki's userbase was shocked and stunned at the sudden death of Ron Nasty. KirbyTheBulborb was the first user to react, adding Nasty's death date to the infobox whilst holding back the tears. OttselSpy25 also reacted by adding that he too was shocked and stunned at Nasty's sudden death, mentioning this on the wiki's main page. He was so shocked and stunned, in fact, that he kept the message on the main page and it remains there to this day.

Starting in late 2020, OttselSpy25 would begin to edit less and less, and inactivity was on the rise. Through 2021 to mid 2023, there were often long periods of time when the Wiki was totally inactive. Every-so-often, an editor would make a lot of edits in a short period of time, then the Wiki would become inactive again. Very few blog posts were posted during this time, and even less were commented on. Some even say Dirk McQuickly, Stig O'Hara and Barry Wom themselves cried, less say the whole world cried. OttselSpy25 would make the editor Reign256 the Wiki's fifth administrator, after which Reign256 became inactive. OttselSpy25 made his last edit that year on the 6th of June, 2023, and did not return until January of the following year.[28] One of the few articles to get edited during this period was William Campbell, with an unregistered IP visibly expressing his frustration towards the comedian by repeatedly blanking his page on numerous occasions.

Semi-Anarchial Semi-Renaissance (2023–Present)[]

Towards the end of 2023, as The Rutles released their final song, Hard to Get, The Rutles Wiki began garnering new editors as well as an old editor returning in a more consistent role, and the Wiki started becoming active once again. As every administrator on the Wiki has now become inactive, The Rutles Wiki has been in a state of anarchy, at the mercy of the ordinary-folk. Luckily, the ordinary-folk of The Rutles Wiki have been behaving very well, and the Wiki's top editors have unofficially assumed the roles of heads of the Wiki, nicknamed Anarcho-Syndicalist Executive Officers.

In December 2023, BootlegsATrolley, the third top editor, was blocked across the entire Fandom website for a few days because he called a Fandom Staff member a knob, as well as a fool, and, completely unrelated, committed the cardinal sin of living a life which doesn't always prioritize the Rutles Wiki. KirbyTheBulborb is the current top editor of the Wiki, and has been the most consistent editor since OttselSpy25, though he, like BootlegsATrolley, has committed the cardinal sin of living a life which doesn't always prioritize the Rutles Wiki.[29]

On the 3rd of January 2024, OttselSpy25 made his big return to the Rutles Wiki by reverting KirbyTheBulborb's solid remake of his album cover (though said he liked the more modern version) without making any other edits to the wiki or retaking power from the Anarcho-Syndicalist Executive Officers,[30] which he could easily do. This technically makes him eligible to become an Anarcho-Syndicalist Executive Officer, as he is also one of the Wiki's top editors. BootlegsATrolley then made his own remake of the album cover, which OttselSpy25 also reverted. In the following days, BootlegsATrolley would grant Darb00, the Wiki's 6th top editor, the role of Anarcho-Syndicalist Executive Officer,[31] and would also grant OttselSpy25 the aforementioned role after he discovered the aforementioned technicality.[32] Later in January, KirbyTheBulborb shocked and stunned the wiki by announcing he was taking a break from editing, and further shocked and stunned the wiki by saying he would be editing wikis aside from this one.
