Meet the Rutles

Meet the Rutles (also known as With the Rutles)[1] is the second album by the English rock band the Rutles.[2] It was released on 22 November 1963, on Parlourphone, and was recorded four months after the band's debut Please Rut Me.

The album features eight original compositions (seven by Nasty–McQuickly and "Maniac" along with "Ole Man Trouble", Stig O'Hara's first compositions written specifically for the Rutles) and six covers (mostly of Motown, rock and roll, and R&B hits).

The third song on the album, "Hold My Hand", was also released as a single and became one of the group's biggest hits. The cover photograph was taken by a fashion photographer, and it has been mimicked by several music groups.

The Recording[]

The recording process of this album is unknown. It was recorded sometime between 7 October and 8 November 1963. All we know is that the album took even longer to record than their debut album Please Rut Me, as Melvin Hall said in the documentary All You Need Is Cash that "their first album [Please Rut Me] was made in 20 minutes, their second [Meet the Rutles] took even longer".
